Key Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
• A bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics Engineering or related sciences essential. Master of Science or PhD advantageous.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a petrophysicist in the oil and gas industry essential.
• Prior experience working with the geology of offshore Eastern Canada and
knowledge of clastic sedimentology, stratigraphy and structural geology advantageous.
• Experience with geophysics, biostratigraphy, reservoir characterization and development planning advantageous.
• An ability to understand and appreciate the potential of underdeveloped assets advantageous.
• Demonstrated computing skills including Linux, Unix and PC based applications
• Good knowledge of wireline and Measurements While Drilling (MWD)/Logging While Drilling (LWD) logs as well as formation evaluation essential. Previous experience as a logging engineer and in acquisition and analyses of petrophysical data from offshore environments advantageous.
• Current competency in an industry-standard petrophysical package essential (Geolog and/or Techlog desired).
• Strong communication skills are required, as is the ability to work collaboratively with co-workers in the Subsurface team, the Drilling and Completions groups, and external organizations such as service companies and regulatory bodies essential.
• Desire and ability to coach and mentor junior geoscientists within the team essential.
• Proven ability to work in a team environment dealing with people from various disciplines essential.
• Capability in a mentoring and/or coaching role essential.
• Superior analytical skills and the ability to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide appropriate solutions/recommendations essential.
• Excellent presentation as well as written and oral communication skills essential.
• Ability to problem-solve and to work independently to develop solutions essential.
• Be a member in good standing or be eligible for registration with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland & Labrador (PEGNL).
• Ambitious with a strong desire to accomplish results and achieve a high level of client satisfaction.
• Enthusiasm and drive to keep abreast of new petrophysical trends and technologies and to promote internally.
• Ability to travel.

Job Description
Reporting to the Subsurface Technical Lead, you will undertake many activities, such as:
• Become competent in the Company’s workflows, practices and petrophysical products used.
• Build strong working relationships across exploration, development and operation personnel.
• Become the technical focal point for petrophysical related services.
• Consult with team members, leading to the design and documentation of cost-effective Logging While Drilling (LWD) and wireline data acquisition modules in pre-drill documentation packages.
• Engage with the local regulatory body regarding data acquisition programs and guidelines, at the planning stage and operationally.
• Co-ordinate with service company representatives and logistics staff to schedule onshore/offshore movement of petrophysical tools and staff.
• Monitor and provide support as required of LWD and wireline log data acquisitions; reviewing data at an early stage to identify any quality issues or re-acquisition requirements. This may include remote supervision via real-time and directing a logging witness to carry out this function.
• Carry out operational petrophysical analyses as needed for defining subsequent well operations.
• Review finalized well log data provision by service providers, and identify and communicate any deficiencies to the provider.
• Verify invoices and charges for logging services utilized.
• Conduct detailed petrophysical analyses with finalized data that is consistent with current team methodology; providing petrophysical plots, analysis curve digits and summation products as needed by other team members.
• Communicate the results of technical analyses to internal staff and management as well as external partners.
• Maintain and enhance personal professional development through evaluation of the latest technological trends, advancements and innovations in reservoir description and management, and through technical reading, webinars and courses.
• Champion data stewardship within the Subsurface group; creating guidelines and standards for a petrophysical database
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff on log analyses, data stewardship and pressure interpretation
• Travel offshore may be required on occasion.
