URGENT: Working for a leading provider of advanced wellsite and laboratory services to the mineral and hydrocarbon industries…you will support their growing demand for core analysis services. The main focus of this role is to interpret the processed core and understand the structural evolution of a particular area with regard to rock deformations and stress fields. Applicants invited with a structural geology based degree and a keen desire to advance your geological interpretation skills. Industry experience is preferred but not essential. Key Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
• A Geology Degree essential - preferably an MSc in structural geology.
• A strong understanding of Structural Geology and a desire to pursue this discipline essential.
• Experience in the oil and gas industry desired – preferably at the wellsite, analysing geological features on cores (fracture description, core reorientation, stereographic projection).
• Proven experience performing services on rock samples at the wellsite involving structural geology, core description, and basic core processing desired.
• Previous experience using core cutting or core data recording tools desired.
• Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
• Some exposure to geological interpretation software highly advantageous.
• Highly organised and methodical in work practices, paying attention to detail. Must be able to multi-task daily.
• Highly independent individual but can also work effectively in a team to achieve results essential.
• High work ethic - understands the tasks at hand, and strives to achieve and deliver excellent results.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work across various levels, disciplines and cultures in foreign parts.
• Maturity and personality to deal diplomatically with all levels of project team members and third parties.
• Fluent written and spoken English essential. Other language skills such as Arabic highly advantageous.
• Good PC Computer literacy skills - especially spreadsheet and word processing.
• High regard for safety whilst at the wellsite.
• Must be able and willing to travel internationally as required.
Job Description
Reporting to Operations Manager this role encompasses many functions including:
• Become competent in the Company’s core workflows – coring, analysis process and interpretation. Training will be provided and you will gain valuable experience and exposure to enable you progress in your role and career.
• Working at wellsites with the Wellsite Geologist, you will gain practical hands-on experience in rock sampling, involving structural geology with fracture description, core description and basic core processing.
• Working in the core laboratory, you will gain experience in thin section and core analysis.
• Undertake structural Interpretation of fracture and fault frameworks – you will have access to a variety of data to help determine rock deformations and stress calculations – e.g. core description, borehole images, drilling data, porosity, permeability, SCAL, gamma logs, rock strength profiles etc.
• Contribute to the Geological Report – as you progress in your career you may be responsible for undertaking your own reports. Reports will highlight the characteristics of the fractured reservoir rock and may include graphs, charts, structural cross sections etc.
• Perform services in a timely and professional manner.
• Be proactive in advancing your understanding of the Company’s business and structural Geology. The Company is expanding their service offerings and you will be proactive in expanding your skill base accordingly.
• Travel to the field both onshore and offshore as required.
This is an exciting and challenging role for a junior geologist who is interested in international travel and the opportunity to learn about field operations and structural geological interpretation. Full support, mentoring and training will be provided.
