Post Does chemical solvent decrease limestone rock strength?
Hello guys
I'm working in a Routine Core Analysis Lab and we extract hydrocarbons from core plugs using chemical solvents and then it sends out for other measurements.
I have noticed that when we wash limestone core plugs using a chemical solvent (like toluene) it become more loose and powdery. Also, its strength decreases.
I think this must be related solving out cement or grains of rock.
so here's my question:
why is this happening?
which part of limestone is vulnerable to these chemical solvents? Grain? cement?
Can you please tell me what is common cement and grain composition of limestones?

I'm sorry if my question was elementary
