Caliper (CAL)

This is an acronym for a well log used in the oil and gas industry. The code CAL is a unique identifier to recognize this particular log and can be found in any (ASCII) log files provided by the logging company. The acronym stands for 'Caliper'. The usage of this log is well established.

This log displays readings of the borehole diameter as measured by a logging device: a record of the borehole or the internal diameter of tubular goods. At a higher level, this can be seen as a measure of the inside diameter (Inside diameter of an entity, such as an item of drillstring equipment).

This log usually has the unit 'Cylinder Diameter'.
