Are there any advantages in: a) loading a 32bit seismic data volume vs a 16 or 8 bit volume for interpretation in paradigm, petrel, etc.... b) Using seismic data sampled at 2ms vs 4ms.. I would imagine that the resolution in both cases would be better, useful especially for seismic attribute maps and for detailed well ties with lithology in depth cross sections. As the larger seismic volumes would require greater computer resources, I would appreciate a clarification or exchange from similar experiences |

Well, for petrel it has certain advantages for attribute calculations and getting more detail to image small channels and subtle rock property changes. My experience is that when realized to the zgy bricked format not a lot of visualisation performance reduction is the result. For frequency filtering I believe small vertical sampling and a good amplitude bit range is paramount. Of course this also goes for other attributes and filters and for my alltime favorite: sweetness. In some cases I've also seen 32 bit data is not properly realized and high amplitudes are just basically cut-off; in which case very valuable data is lost. |

Why not get the Gulfacks training set from the schlumberger portal (SIS) or some seismic cubes from the OpenDtect website??? |

Sorry, can't help you there. Neve used stratworks or the landmark suite. Know how to do it in Petrel though, through the synthetics... The actual well tie workflow is a little too complex to what I usually need to do! |
