Job Description
The Subsurface Data Specialist role requires an experienced professional with a breadth of experience in petrotechnical data management to support the Exploration teams based in Sunbury.
The purpose of the role is to provide the teams with quality assured data in a timely and effective manner to enable them to meet the Landmark to Petrel Programme data preparation and to support migration activities.
- Reporting to the Exploration Subsurface Data Lead, the Subsurface Data Specialist will provide data management and quality control to help prepare a Region's data for programme data migration, including the shipment and receipt of data to and from the data migration hubs.
- Promotion of data standards and resolution of data management and data quality issues prior to and during migration including during the final migration stage on local infrastructure.
- Ensuring data is held correctly in project databases in line with the requirements and recommendations from the Central Programme Data Management team and local business standards.
- Supporting the teams with a range of data management tasks and activities to manage & control the data used by the teams in project databases/information stores that will be migrated.
- Coordination of the archival of data using defined indexing technologies/standards and robust archival processes where data is no longer required by the business.
- Ensuring that defined data processes, standards and workflows are followed throughout.
- Implementing the data ownership model for specific data types to allow correct clean-up and prioritisation decisions to be taken prior to migration.
- Coordination with other Region Programme Project members and Region Data Management staff and contractors to ensure data is prepared consistently and appropriately.
Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified, preferably in one of the Subsurface/Geoscience disciplines, and/or significant equivalent experience.
- Understanding of Subsurface business workflows and the management of the associated data types.
- Experience in promoting standards and best practice within data management.
- Significant experience in key Subsurface applications and databases including in-depth knowledge of their data management requirements e.g. OpenWorks R5000 and associated applications, Techlog, Recall, Finder and Petrel.
- Good understanding of all the key data types for Subsurface such as well headers, well logs, cultural data, seismic navigation and trace data, deviation data, core and well test data, formation tops.
This is a contract position.
The rate for this position is negotiable.
