Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Exploration Geology Advisor, based in India.

Job Description

• Screening of NV and exploration acreage including construction of basin models for prospect ranking and screening


• Internationally recognised expert in seismic sequence stratigraphy


• Understanding of uncertainty and probabilistic approaches to volumetric determination and prospect ranking and risking


• Interaction with petroleum systems analysts and regional geologists to build seismic sequence stratigraphic interpretations and populate 3D basin models with horizons for risking and uncertainty analysis.


• Basin and prospect ranking and risking


• Use of geo-referenced data including ArcGIS and related applications


• Written and verbal reporting of technical studies and appropriate presentation to management, partners & Government bodies and representatives.


• Champion geoscience functional excellence within the Exploration Department, including refinement of best practice workflows in Exploration and New Venture activities


• Champion regional geological interpretation and multidisciplinary approaches to basin analysis in Company


• Participate in cross team/departmental peer review sessions as required


• Develop and mentor junior geologists and peers in the Exploration Department


• Champion access to relevant leading-edge geological exploration technologies and supervise relevant Joint Industry Projects Technical and Business Management


• Develop strong working relationships across the geological and geophysical community in Company


• Lead workflow and review processes in Exploration basin and prospect ranking and risking


• Manage projects to time and budget


• Presentation at senior management review/investment meetings as required


• Contribute to planning project budgets


• Meetings and networking with scouting organisations and relevant regulatory bodies


• Internal meetings and networking in Company across NV and Exploration


• Liaison with new business, legal, contracts and corporate departments as necessary


• Be aware of Finance and Procurement key representatives to ensure payment of invoices in a timely manner


• Be aware of new geological technical developments to build working relationships with technology developers in this discipline


• Contribute to Company subsurface technology programme definition and technology transfer

Skills & Experience

• MSc or PhD in Geoscience


• Vast experience primarily in seismic sequence stratigraphic interpretation across a range of international basins and depositional systems along with broad technical experience in regional New Venture exploration


• Expert understanding of sedimentary basin evolution and petroleum systems analysis, regional evaluation and regional geological processes and workflows


• Ability to integrate multiple types of geophysical and geological data to develop working petroleum system models and use these to input into 3D basin modelling software to predict charge and phase distribution


• Significant experience with an operating oil company is essential, preferably in a multi-disciplinary Exploration asset team with exposure to seismic sequence stratigraphy and petroleum systems analysis


• Understanding of project execution and cost implications.


• Strong current workstation skills, including working in a 3D visualisation environment using GeoFrame, GeoViz, Paradigm, SMT Kingdom and Petrel environments


• Expertise in ArcGIS and database management is important


• Team player with open and flexible approach


• Good communicator and presenter


• Experience of mentoring and coaching colleagues to enhance their performance and skill sets


• Commercially aware with entrepreneurial attitude


• Willingness to travel extensively

This is a permanent position.
