Job TitleSenior Geologist - New Ventures
LocationLondon
Job TypePermanent
Job Description
Our client, a global operator in London, are looking for someone to join their New Ventures team in order to
Be responsible for identifying and capturing the next generation of material exploration opportunities, in particular those that will drive forward our clients growth beyond 2020.
Main Duties
Responsibilities
*Generation of new ideas is crucial. The team works closely with Global Basin Screening to proactively generate opportunities for future exploration. Early entry to a play is the best way to maximise value and this is best achieved by pursuing under explored or immature basins;
*In addition to internally generated concepts there is also a steady flow of farm-in proposals and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) opportunities that need to be evaluated and ranked (the vast majority are rejected). While the work is based in TVP, evaluations are often completed through attendance at data-rooms in a wide variety of locations;
*Once screened as being technically and economically attractive the team's job is to develop a proposal and seek Group approval for acquisition, for example, a licence round, farm-in or M&A deal;
*Maintain a high profile externally as you build links with industry, university and professional bodies and work closely with key contacts in governments, partners and contractors to agree common objectives;
*Identify, evaluate and acquire material, high quality New Venture opportunities that will enhance existing exploration prospect / lead portfolio;
*Undertake regional and basin evaluations of specific plays, generating play fairway evaluations to capture resource ranges, key risks and uncertainties.
Technical Responsibilities
*Experience of undertaking regional exploration studies, play evaluations, prospect ranking and reserves estimation, preferably across several countries, multiple basins and with different play and different reservoir types;
*Minimum of Masters qualification in Geology or related field with proven experience in the oil and gas industry;
*Understanding of exploration processes from play fairway analysis to prospect maturation, volumetric assessment, risk assessment and the synthesis of diverse regional datasets;
*Knowledge of structural and stratigraphic interpretation methods, including sequence stratigraphy;
*Understanding of geological processes and settings and of both shelf and deep water depositional systems and architectures;
*Experience in petroleum systems, including understanding the data types collected, interpretation, and integration into well performance;
*Some knowledge of the other subsurface disciplines such as petrophysics, reservoir engineering, well operations etc would be anticipated;
*Experience of leading a technical team or project leadership would be beneficial;
