Our client is looking to fill the position of Wellsite Geologist, based in North Slope, Alaska.


Job Description


893483 - Wellsite Geologist II


Location - North Slope, AK


Rotation (2x2 or 3x3)


9 month contract


Wellsite Geologist for rotational work in support of rotary and coiled-tubing drilling operations on Alaska's North Slope. The Wellsite Geologist plays the lead role in ensuring subsurface lithology and fluid descriptions, MWD/logging, directional drilling, mud engineering, and mud logging activities are fully aligned to deliver well objectives. Work involves onsite active geosteering and operational support during all drilling activities. Drilling operations include rotary rig sidetracks, sidetracks with coil tubing drilling and occasional grassroots rotary wells. Well types are primarily horizontal (single and multi-lateral) wells, as well as vertical, extended-reach and high-angle slant wells targeting various North Slope reservoirs in fields operated. The Wellsite Geologist is also responsible for attending pre-drill and, as needed, post-drill technical and planning reviews in Anchorage offices.
The position requires close and regular interaction with wellsite team leaders, onsite rig personnel, and subsurface functional teams in Anchorage.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Awareness and adherence to HSE policies and Code of Conduct
Pre-drilling
* Attend pre-spud meeting(s) in Anchorage office, review technical package and statement-of-requirements (SOR) objectives and drilling program
* Collect and review required well site reference data, technical package, correlation / offset logs, maps, prognoses
Operational Responsibilities
* General
o Pick casing point: using isopachs, changes in drilling parameters, samples
o Pick core point: using isopachs, changes in drilling parameters, samples
o Log correlation/interpretation
o Formation and fluid marker picks
o Revise/update geologic marker and target projections
o Geo-steer wellbore to achieve objectives of SOR
o TD determination
o Wellbore landings and target adjustments to drill data
o Forward projections and apparent thickness corrections
o Fault recognition and characterization
o Mentoring and training of less-experienced personnel
* Cuttings sample evaluation and description
o Reservoir characterization: Lithology, grain size, sorting, roundness, porosity, consolidation, cementation
o Hydrocarbons show analysis and description: stain, visual cut, surface fluorescence, cut fluorescence, percentage of HOT (heavy oil / tar) occluding porosity
o Sample quality control and documentation
* Log Quality Control
o Depth control and tie-in on sidetracks, conventional wells, and CTD
o Onsite quality control for MWD / Wireline / Drill Pipe Conveyed logs
o Provide logging service company with oil normalization zones
o Witness log acquisition and quality control
* Communication
o Advise town personnel on changes needed in well plan
o Advise rig team on geologic risks, morning meeting, and casing point / casing tallies
o Ensure directional driller understands and achieves geosteering and target objectives
o Advise MWD and mud logging personnel of program requirements and revisions and ensure delivery of program objectives
o Distribute daily reports, files and interpreted data to Operator's representative and partners
o Regular interface with town geologist
o Regular visits in Anchorage with the New Wells Delivery team
* Documentation
o Daily file / documentation and final documentation maintenance
o Daily Reports, interpreted "Geosurvey" (using Excel-based application), lithology description
o Interpreted daily log with target projections
o Final perforation recommendations in collaboration with Town subsurface team(s)
o Prepare final operations report (End of Well Summary), interpreted log and digital log file(s)
o Maintain North Slope geology and engineering files; expedite final logs and data to Anchorage


QUALIFICATIONS:
* Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Geology
* Within last 5 years, at least 2 full years experience in a lead role actively geo-steering horizontal wells, i.e. "hands on" at the rigsite - requires demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with wellsite leader (company man), and coordinate activities with directional driller, MWD/logging engineer, mud engineer and office-based operations geologist
* Sound background in basic well log interpretation: with ability to recognize and differentiate lithology, formation fluid responses and borehole effects
* Relevant industry experience in operations and production geology
* Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Excel
* Experience with Alaska North Slope drilling operations a strong plus
* Strong technical grounding in petroleum operations, operations and production geology, drilling and completions, and field development
* Ability to focus efforts and prioritize work under pressure and adapt effectively to fast-paced operations
* Comfortable working in a remote, physically demanding environment for up to three weeks at a time
* Excellent communication skills, strong team player, open and transparent communicator across multiple oilfield disciplines
* English fluency required.
