Location: United Kingdom > Aberdeen

The Geology Home Team forms part of a central discipline support structure to help Shell’s Development and Non-Operated Ventures assets and Exploration across Europe. Sedimentological expertise is a key contribution provided by the team which includes structural geologists, reservoir modellers, stratigraphers and geochemists. Your location will be Aberdeen but some travel to other UIE locations, contractor offices, the Global research centres and to Universities is to be expected.

Key Requirements

The position requires an enthusiastic and experienced geologist with a strong sedimentological basis to the level of PhD or similar. Hands-on experience of core description, core-log calibration and reservoir property assignation, the application of seismic data to sedimentological and reservoir property issues are all highly desirable. Skill in Petrel modelling would be useful as it provides the critical link to the modelling part of the subsurface workflow.

Job Description

You will work with a senior sedimentologist, also based in Aberdeen, which gives you the opportunity to grow in the job whilst the close collaboration with Asset staff provides exposure to the operational side of the business. You will have the opportunity to stimulate and improve the use of sedimentological data and concepts across UI Europe. You must expect to receive both ad hoc requests for advice, including field, interpretation and model reviews, and long term project work, and you will be required to prioritise these without jeopardising the agreed deadlines of ongoing projects

As a member of the Shell Upstream International Europe Geology Home Team, the successful candidate will provide expert sedimentological and reservoir geological input to the business. This will take the form of consultancy, coaching, defined projects and quality assurance. You will also be expected to identify and introduce relevant existing and new technologies and concepts for reservoir characterisation and for guiding subsurface modelling workflows.

In UIE we address a range of reservoir types, from turbidite through shallow marine to fluvial and aeolian, with a strong focus on turbidite reservoirs in our UK acreage. You will work together with other geological and geophysical specialists with asset geologists, interpreters, petroleum engineers and you will jointly be responsible for timely completion and high quality of project work. Your contribution will particularly focus on the provision or assurance of regional and field-scale conceptual depositional and diagenetic/reservoir property models, backed up by all relevant data including core descriptions and analyses, log profiles and evaluations, QI volumes, bio and chemostratigraphic studies and the like. You will also be responsible for translating these conceptual models into a form useful for static and dynamic reservoir models using Petrel and other software. The work will also include the coaching of junior/inexperienced staff in key sedimentological and reservoir geological issues.
