Orion Engineering have been asked by a global Operator to recruit a Senior Development Engineer to be based in London.

Job Description

This new role, based within the London team, shall support growth activity, both on an asset and corporate level. The growth team provides technical support to both the business development and the Exploration New Business groups in London. The team is also responsible for taking on work relating to the concept selection phase of difficult pre development assets where there is no BU team specifically allocated.

• Contribute to screening the numerous acquisition opportunities arising through the marketing of upstream assets by banks, direct negotiations with JV partners and through pro-active business development efforts, including own networks.


• Access virtual and attend physical data rooms - acquire and interpret data for the asset evaluation in hand.


• Provide development concept and cost estimation input to exploration new business activities including new ventures and prospect generation.


• Recommend, carry out and/or supervise work plans covering the development subsea and pipeline engineering aspects of acquisition evaluation projects; manage third party consultant teams as necessary(conceptual and Pre-FEED).


• Liaison and Relationship Building with Partners and State Companies - to be undertaken generally on a project specific basis at the appropriate level but some relationships may need to be developed and maintained on a longer term basis.


• Liaise with regional Business Units to carry out pre-development studies (together with other team members as appropriate) for "stranded" assets.


• Drive areas of technology that will enhance the growth opportunities through working with research institutes, service providers and the contracting community.

Skills & Experience

• Engineering Degree (or similar); with appropriate subsea engineering experience


• Vast post graduate experience in upstream oil and gas (exploration & production), including a key focus on subsea engineering covering concepts through FEED to detailed design. Broader commercial/BD experience is valued.


• Experience with fabrication, construction and contracting framework would be desirable.


• The ability to organise and lead an evaluation team;


• Classical subsea engineering skills;


• Experienced in development planning;


• The ability to quickly identify and quantify the key value drivers of a project;


• The ability to think creatively to identify upside in projects that others may have missed;


• The ability to integrate engineering with other disciplines (Facilities, Drilling, G&G, commercial, etc.)


• Experienced in new business analysis/data rooms, holding the ability to see the "bigger picture".


• Good understanding of G&G, facilities, and petroleum economics;


• Good industry knowledge of subsea contractors, installation contractors and suppliers. Plus knowledge ROVs and diver interventions


• Experience in design of flow lines, pipelines, risers, umbilical and control systems

This is a permanent position.
