Post subject:  Recent gas flairing increase in the US (Texas)

Hey everybody,

Recently I've heard rumours that flaring has increased in many of the Texas onshore oil fields as the gas they were producing no longer can be sold. This seems primarily to be caused by the increase in shale gas production, which is somehwat flooding the market.

Changing infrastructure to transport the gas outside the US or even pump it back into reservoirs to (re)pressurize is expensive and takes time. To me it seems this is a very bad development not only because valuable gas is waisted, but also because of the associated CO2 production. Do any of you have information that confirms these rumours or any other details about this increase in flairing?

Thanks
