Yes, I use Petrel and I'm a reasonably experienced with it. I work as a production geologist, contracting these days. I'm on contract to a company called DANA which is now part of the Korean National Oil Company, although up until last year I had worked for several years at Shell. I think the book reflects my experience as a working production geologist and there is a lot of practical advice in it. I've had feedback from friends and colleagues and 'pragmatic' seems to be the verdict. I'm aware that there are a lot of youngsters world-wide starting their career in production geology and the book has to some extent been written for them. It has cook book style to it! (take an oil field, lightly fry it in butter, add some seasoning ....). Nevertheless, I'm told that more experienced geologists also get a lot out of it. |

Aha, working for Dana. Are you working on all their fields in the North Sea? ...but, the main reason for my response: Have you seen the new article in the April AAPG Bulletin on Fault Facies and their effect on fluid flow. When I read it, I immediately thought about our discussion here and remembered you where also interested in addressing Fault Facies classification in your new book. Just wanted to make sure this didn't slip past you: http://search.datapages.com/data/bullet ... N09132.HTM I had a quick read, but will need to spend some time on it to grasp exactly what their doing... |
