application of micropaleo in hydrocarbon exploration

Post application of micropaleo in hydrocarbon exploration
hello everybody,
i am keen to know how micropaleontolgy can be used for exploring hydrocarbon reserves. all that i got to know that it could be used for biostratigraphy, correlation purpose, paleobathymetry, etc.
but still i couldn't understand how it is used now a days for petroleum exploration..please help me through this giving an insight over it..
and please do mention some links if possible for further information :)
