The acyclic Cā‚ā‚‰ and Cā‚‚ā‚€ isoprenoid hydrocarbons, pristane & phytane, respectively, have been extensively believed to be diagenetic items of the phytyl aspect cycle of chlorophyll, although substitute resources of precursors have been recommended. The rate of these two substances is usually considered to be an indication of the oxicity of the environment of deposit.
