Post deposition history obtained from 2D and 3D seismic data
i'm just thinking about...
What kind of deposition information can be obtained respectivity from 2D and 3D seismic data? What limitation will be, when using 2D seismic data to interpret the deposition environment?
If we only have 2D seismic data, how detail of deposition histiry can be depicted?

Seismic alone is probably not enough to answer those questions. But a geophysicist working with a geologist can potentially use seismic to address these questions. Look into inversion, it has enormous potential for determining lithology.

Indeed, you can use inversion, but you'll probably need some well logs for that. A lot can be gained from seismic facies analysis and careful investigation of reflector relationships (channel cuts, foresets, truncations, chaos, etc). Look into seismic sequence stratigraphy too.
