Post Sand Silt Model in Interactive Petrophysics
Hi All,

I am new to IP software and wondering if anyone in the community have used this module before? Is this module cater for thin bed analysis?

Hi Janice,

I believe the Sand Silt Model in Interactive Petropysics software is the one that they developed for evaluating the sand-silt-clay reservoirs in the Malay basin.
I may be wrong.
If that indeed is the SSC (Sand Silt Clay) model or thay call it Malay Basin Model, it is similar to the the Sand Silt Clay model that PETRONAS developed for the Geolog (and now transported to TechLog software) platform.
IP developed their Malay Basin (Sand Silt Clay) model to meet the technical requirements from PETRONAS, when they were bidding for PETRONAS corporate petrophysical software in 2015.
At that time PETRONAS was using Geolog with their in-house SSC model to evaluate clastic reservoirs.
PETRONAS eventually selected TechLog software as their corporate petrophysical software.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the module is called Sand Silt Malay Model in IP.

Wondering if Petronas use the SSC model evaluation in any of the Sabah deepwater turbidites fields?

Hi Janice,

Yes, we use the SSC model in evaluating turbidites also, but we are aware that this model cannot resolve the thin lamination issues that are usually encountered in these turbidites.
Like any other Sand-Shale models, the SSC model is not meant to resolve thinly laminated sands.
Therefore, we also run high resolution logs such as resitivity image as well as triaxial induction resistivity tools like Rt Scanner or 3DEX to derive Rv and Rh in the turbidites.
We then use these data to complement the results from the SSC model.
