Determining if a relay ramp or connection exists

Sat Jul 14, 2012 2:59 pm

Hello.

In growth fault settings like nigeria faults are generally concave and show signs of syndepositional activity. These listric faults form due to wieght of the sediment and grow in size gradually.
On seismic it is often difficult to see if fault form a connection or if a so-called 'relay ramp' exists. I am looking into methods to determine weather or not there is connectivity between fault blocks through such a relay ramp when offset can not be seen clearly on seismic. Do you know any techniques on how to determine this? How do you estimate displacement on fault tips? Are there any rules/recommendations that take maximum throw and length into accountc (as I have that info)?

Thanks in advance!!
