Post Stacking Velocities
Hi,

I am having trouble understanding how best to use a stacking velocity cube to depth convert time horizons. I understand that you can assume Vstack = Vrms and then use the Dix formula to output an interval velocity.

However, how do you actually apply this to a velocity SEGY cube. Do I apply Dix to every time sample? If so would this essentially give me an instantaneous velocity volume rather than an interval velocity volume? Do I not need to make an average velocity volume if I want to depth convert an horizon?

Any help appreciated. A clear step by step guide would be a great help

Thanks

Hi

Stacking velocity is higher than the real velocity with the range of 4-10 %. so if u r going to use it u should calibrate it with the actual velocity data recorded in the borehole via VSP or can be generated from sonic logs after corrections.
