Post Shallow Velocity Problems, Old Onshore Alaska Seismic
Can someone please point me to published papers on the effect of shallow velocity effects due to variations in permafrost thickness (and possibly sub-ice water ponds) on reflection discontinuities on old (1972) seismic acquired in the winter, onshore Alaska.

Interesting topic!!

Not so much on the effects on seismic response and actually no examples, but this might be interesting: http://ine.uaf.edu/autc/files/2011/02/I ... _11_03.pdf

Thanks for sending link to paper on permafrost.
This would be a good source of "ground truth" for processing geophysicists to try to tackle the problem.
I´m still looking forward to papers on how to interpret, or "pifalls" in interpreting 2D seismic in frozen ground.

What are some interesting topics for debate concerning geology? here is an example I was given to help give some guidance Should we have rebuilt the city of New Orleans? I obviously don't really care what anyone thinks about this question so don't go off thinking too much about that. I just need more topics/questions for debate that are somewhat related to geology.
