Post Calculation of pore water resistivity
Hi

Does anyone know how to calculate pore water resistivity, based on for example salinity, pressure and temperature? (not with Archies equation)

Kind regards

Kris_10,

The following is the link to Crain's petrophysical handbook, for the method to compute Rw (formation water resistivity) from salinity (Total Dissolved Solids) and temperature.

http://www.spec2000.net/14-swrw.htm

Rw is dependent mainly on salinity and temperature of the formation water. It is not dependent on pressure. The salinity, i.e. solubility of salts in water, will depend on the temperature and pressure exerted on the solution.

Thank you. I also found this one:

ln(Rw) = -0,9487 ln(c) - 0,02479 t + 2,2396

Where c is salinity and t is temperature.

I'm not quite sure about the unit of salinity. If I use ppm I get an unrealistic low resistivity for my well. Does anyone know the equation and the parameter unit of salinity?

The unit was g/l
