As User Support Geoscientist (USG) you will work closely with geoscientists and geotechnicians acting as a liaison between the work groups they support and the broader EMIT IT function. You will also work with business users to understand business processes and geoscience workflows in order to advise and mentor geoscientists and geotechnicians in the most effective use of the Upstream Technical Computing System (UTCS) to achieve technical work goals.
As a proactive, self-motivated individual, you need to be able to work independently as well as part of a team and this should include joining a global virtual team environment where you may need to mentor more junior colleagues as part of this role.
Key Requirements
Skills and Experience:
- Preferably a Geoscientist educated to degree level with 7+ years of relevant experience gained within an Upsream corporate environment
- Expert in Petrel application and experience of use of the application for log and seismic interpretation
- Competent knowledge of key geoscience applications Geoframe & ArcGIS
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the key geoscience work flows and processes
- Robust understanding of geoscience data types used in Oil and Gas exploration
- Well data - logs, cores, etc.
- Seismic data, 2D & 3D, navigation, seg-y data, etc
- Spatial data, maps, etc
- Interpretation products - horizons, grids, etc
- Awareness of geodetics - co-ordinate reference systems - geographic & projected
- Familiarity with Paradigm applications (eg VoxelGeo)
- Familiarity with Landmark applications (eg Openworks, ZMAP)
- Use of OpenSpirit to move data between applications
- Experienced in Petrel data import and export:
- ASCII data loading
- Checking data from within Petrel Applications
- Data export
- Ability to learn new processes and applications quickly
- Experience of use of geoscience applications in the Windows environment
- Strong team working skills with ability to function virtually with regional/global teams
- Customer focus - approachable & enjoys interacting with people
- Credibility to demonstrate technical leadership
- Ability to interact with staff at all organizational levels
- Expert level problem solving and deductive reasoning skills
- Ability to deal with competing time demands and appropriately prioritize work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

This is a contract position initially for 6 months and then possibly extending for a further 6 months.
