Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Senior Geophysicist, based in London.
Job Description
- Contribute to screening the numerous acquisition opportunities arising through the marketing of upstream assets by banks, direct negotiations with JV partners and through pro-active business development efforts, including own networks.
- Access virtual and attend physical datarooms - acquire and interpret data for the asset evaluation in hand. The geophysical methodology to be deployed will be specific to the asset in question: data quantity and quality, reservoir characteristics, the evaluation timetable and the acquisition process.
- Recommend, carry out and/or supervise work plans covering the geoscience aspects of acquisition evaluation projects; manage 3rd party consultant teams as necessary.
- Liaison and Relationship Building with Partners and State Companies - to be undertaken generally on a project specific basis at the appropriate level but some relationships may need to be developed and maintained on a longer term basis.
- Liaise with regional Business Units to carry out pre-development studies (together with other team members as appropriate) for "stranded" assets.
- Drive areas of technology that will enhance the growth opportunities working with research institutes, service providers and the contracting community.
- Co-ordinate the efforts of other evaluation team members as required and steer the work through internal Peer Review process.
- Provide geophysical input for Investment Papers sent to Executive Committee and/or the Board in respect of potential acquisitions;
- Identify suitable candidates for projects consistent with acquisition strategy.
- Provide ad hoc geophysical support to other parts of the business;
Skills & Experience
- Graduate or post graduate qualifications in Geoscience or related discipline;
- Significant post graduate experience in upstream oil and gas (exploration & production), including a key focus on geophysics. Broader commercial/BD experience is valued.
- The ability to organise and lead an evaluation team;
- Strong geophysical skills, able to quickly evaluate mature fields and new development opportunities;
- Extensive experience in using advances seismic techniques (including AVO analysis and Inversion)
- Experienced in development planning;
- The ability to quickly identify and quantify the key value drivers of a project;
- The ability to think creatively to identify upside in projects that others may have missed;
- The ability to integrate with other disciplines (RE, commercial, etc.)
- Experienced in new business analysis / data rooms, holding the ability to see the "bigger picture".
- An understanding of how geophysics relates to petroleum engineering (reservoir and production) and petroleum economics;
- Proficiency in the use of geophysical interpretation and mapping software;
- Familiarity with diverse reservoir types and petroleum systems - Middle East, Africa, North Sea, Vietnam and Indonesia experience would be an advantage but not essential.
- Currency with latest industry innovations and best practise,
- Good general knowledge of the oil industry
This is a permanent position.
The salary for this position is negotiable.
