Job Description
Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer
Permanent – Edinburgh
Our client, an engineering consultancy providing services to various industries internationally, with offices in the UK and abroad, is seeking a Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer for their Edinburgh office.
The Role:
Will be in their Ground and Environmental Engineering section. It will be primarily focussed on the management and preparation of desk study reports and the administration of contracts for site investigation including soil and rock logging to current standards, laboratory scheduling, interpretation of data and preparation of factual and interpretive reports, development of ground models and computer analysis. Site duties will include supervision of more junior staff and Contractors in site investigation and earthworks and other ground improvement/remediation schemes. In addition to projects in the development sector, there will also be considerable involvement in the engineering aspects of renewable energy projects.
Experience& Skills Required:
• Will have a first degree and/or MSc in a related discipline and have at least 7-10 years relevant experience.
• Should be Chartered or working towards this status.
• Should have experience in and be able to coordinate all aspects of geo-environmental site investigation, desk study and reporting.
• Particular experience in conceptual site models, quantitative risk assessment and groundwater modelling are essential coupled with an understanding of brownfield land remediation and reclamation and an appreciation of issues beyond their academic skill base.
• Should have knowledge of soil and rock mechanics and contamination risk assessments together with an appreciation of site supervision on bulk earthworks schemes.
• A working knowledge of legislation and guidance relating to contaminated land and experience of dealing with SEPA and Local Authorities would be a distinct advantage.
