Currently I am representing a major oil and gas operator with significant basins in the UK North Sea, offshore West Africa, United States and Canada.
Our client is experiencing significant growth in its U.S business through deepwater exploration and production.
The GOM Exploration team is pursuing success through aggressive exploration, appraisal and development drilling programs and require a successful Petroleum Systems Analyst (PSA) to supplement this team.
For the US Division you will be responsible for leading and providing expert skills (scientific and project management) within the area of Petroleum Systems Analysis. You will provide advice/assistance to Exploration, Appraisal and Development team’s personnel to advance business objectives in the areas of regional studies, prospect maturation, post well analysis, lease sales, new venture opportunities and new field development.
Key Requirements
Job Duties/Responsibilities
• Leads and conducts petroleum systems studies across the US Division – principally the deep-water Gulf of Mexico business;
• Experience in map-based basin modelling software both 1D and pseudo 3D (particularly Zeta ware, Trinity T3 and Genesis);
• Experience in 2D and 3D fluid flow basin modelling (particularly Petromod 2D/3D);
• Strong geological skills in Petroleum Systems Analysis with working knowledge of:
• Tectonic-thermal history of sedimentary basins.
• Organic geochemistry of oils, gases and sediments.
• Depositional models of sedimentary organic matter.
• Kinetics and petroleum generation/expulsion.
• Basin hydrodynamics, fluid flow, pressure.
• Pore systems and their role in trap/seal definition.
• Experience in project management and teamwork (including strong interpersonal and organizational skills) with a proven record of multi-tasking and working under tight deadlines;
• Identifies additional resource needs to ensure project delivery;
• Recommends data collection activity such as proposing well / geochemical data acquisitions and core / fluid sample geochemical analyses;
• Responsible for identifying and proposing internal and third party studies in support of technical work plans;
• Maintains key relationships within industry and academia in order to keep technical skills current in this specialty area;
• Participates in peer-based risk and resource estimation processes; ensures such processes are adhered to in conducting specialist evaluations; seeks input from peers to ensure technical high quality is achieved in evaluations;
• Provides mentoring and technical assistance to staff;
• Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Reports directly to Geoscience Manager;
Works with peers, Technical Excellence specialists and Technical Assurance to ensure highest technical quality is achieved.
Education/Experience
• Significant experience in Petroleum Systems Analysis (approximately 10 years);
• Familiarity with workstation-based interpretation systems using relevant software applications associated with basin modeling and petroleum geochemistry analysis;
• Exposure to petroleum basins from a wide variety of geographies and types. Deepwater experience is preferred, with preference for Gulf of Mexico expertise. Similar deepwater experience in other basins in an Exploration or Appraisal role would be advantageous;
• Exposure to PVT/fluids analysis, interpretation and integration.
Job Description
This role will fulfil the following:
• Participation in multi-disciplinary teams responsible for maturing exploration and new business opportunities in the GOM and applying Petroleum Systems Analysis insights, interpretations and technology to help unlock subsurface hydrocarbon potential;
• Application of numerical simulation and geochemistry methods to solve exploration and appraisal problems;
• Participating in peer review processes to ensure successful risk management and the best use of Petroleum System Analysis technology in prospect sizing, risking and portfolio ranking;
• Responsible for charting the development of the discipline, maintaining technical awareness and providing regular training to geoscientists and engineers;
• Technical Liaison – monitor and research new and cutting edge; technology/methods/approaches in the Geochemistry and Petroleum Systems fields;
• Timely delivery and communication of comprehensive high quality technical evaluations.
