Job Description
A multinational operator headquartered in Spain is actively seeking a Senior Geophysicist to join their business in Madrid.
This oil and gas company has been active in the upstream market for over fifty years and currently employs c. 11,000 members of staff worldwide. Current production rate has been quoted at 260,000 bpd and has a refining capacity in three refineries of 21 million tonnes/year.
As a Senior Geophysicist with this Global Operator, the successful applicant will form part of a New Business Development Team and will be tasked with undertaking geophysical screening and evaluation of new opportunities regarding development fields within a small multi-disciplinary team within a limited timeframe.
Other responsibilities include:
* Participate independently and in cooperation with other team members in the activities of one of the New Business teams. The team could at any one time be focusing on the evaluation of exploration, appraisal, development or corporate acquisition projects. The work tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Attend datarooms as a member of a team and assist in collecting all the required geotechnical data
* Assist in the organisation and compilation of the geo-technical data in my client's databases
* Integrate geophysical data (eg. seismic data, potential field data, play maps and subsurface maps) together with geologists and reservoir engineers into an accurate understanding of the subsurface
* Assist in the estimation of gross rock volume and resource volumes in hydrocarbon fields or prospects in close collaboration with the geologist and reservoir engineers in the team
* Participate in the preparation of technical reports as well as in presentations to senior management, partners and government bodies, where appropriate
The successful applicant will:
* BSc in Earth Science (preferred Geophysics)
* More than 5 years experience as a Geophysicist in a sub-surface environment.
* Good understanding of geophysical acquisition techniques, seismic interpretation, well-to-seismic ties, specialised geophysical techniques.
* Good knowledge and understanding of the petroleum system concepts, including mapping techniques, trap formation, basin analysis and structural geology.
* Knowledge and in-depth experience of a selection of geophysical software applications
* Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
* Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing
