They are currently recruiting for the position of GIS Specialist, based in Calgary.
Job Description
To support GIS requirements and deliverables for major projects and mining operations. Ensure compliance with the documented standards and procedures. Manage geospatial data through the master data repository to ensure the integrity of the project information.
- Create and update maps in GIS for project use, assist in geomatics deliverables, following project standards. GIS data used for generation of such cartographic products include: IOL's proprietary project vector data, AltaLIS base data, LiDAR DEM, 3D point GIS files and high resolution Ortho-imagery.
- Convert various spatial data into project standard formats (ArcGIS)
- Coordinate with suppliers on the turnover of spatial data
- Interact with various internal leadership teams, suppliers, and third party data vendors
Skills & Experience
- Previous related experience, with a GIS-related diploma or degree from a recognized technical institute, college, or university
- ESRI suite of ArcGIS software including analysis tools (ArcGIS 10.1, specifically ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcSDE)
- ArcGIS data formats (geodatabase; shapefile; metadata)
- Understanding of map projections and datums
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD formats (DWG/DXF); actual experience using AutoCAD Map an asset
- Cartography experience (e.g., understands the effort and attention required to create a functional map product)
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to follow direction and work independently
- Support and contribute to GIS Team to benefit the group as a whole
- Microsoft Office (word, excel, access, powerpoint)
- Ability to write Python script desirable
This is a contract position.
The rate for this position is negotiable.
