Posted In: Geoscience > Geologist - Exploration

Location: Saudi Arabia

With a career in Geoscience at Saudi Aramco, a global leader in the hydrocarbons industry, you’ll work with geoscientists dedicated to achieving excellence in everything from regional play-based exploration to focused field development. We have an extremely active exploration program. So you’ll discover incredible opportunities to enhance your expertise working with remarkably complete stratigraphy and with reservoirs ranging from Paleozoic glacial sediments to Mesozoic sub-tropical reefs. Explore the vast hydrocarbon-rich Kingdom by joining Saudi Aramco.

Key Requirements

A bachelor's degree in geology or a related science as appropriate to the required discipline. An advanced degree is preferred and will reduce prerequisite work experience stated below by one year for a master’s degree and two years for a Ph.D.

We are targeting 20 years of experience with at least 5-10 years in unconventional plays including shale or tight gas, with some U.S. experience in unconventional hydrocarbon basins required. We will consider candidates with more or less experienced depending on the quality of their experience.

The candidate will have experience in exploration geoscience, with exposure to several of the following areas: regional geological evaluation of unconventional plays, structural characterization of natural fractures and impact on unconventional reservoirs, sequence stratigraphic analysis, geochemistry, petroleum systems and basin modeling, reservoir characterization in unconventional hydrocarbons plays (tight gas, shale gas, unconventional oil and/or coal bed methane), log analysis and interpretation in unconventional reservoirs, and/or experience locating and providing geological support to drilling operations in unconventional plays.

Job Description

Saudi Aramco is embarking on a program to develop its world-class unconventional resources and is seeking experienced professionals to join our Unconventional Multidisciplinary Team. We have an immediate requirement for experienced exploration geologists who have experience in exploring for, characterizing and realizing the full potential of shale and tight gas reservoirs. Of primary interest is experience in acquiring appropriate subsurface data integrated with seismic data to enable the identification of the most prospective areas in our shale and tight gas areas that will be fully appraised and evaluated for development. Saudi Aramco’s position as a world-leading hydrocarbon finder and producer offers unique opportunities for geologists to realize their full technical potential. Soon, Saudi Aramco will be known not just as the reliable supplier of conventional oil and gas, but as a leader in full life-cycle unconventional gas development. Consider the opportunity to join our team and help shape the future of key global unconventional resource development.

As a geologist working for the Unconventional Program you will be able to provide input into regional evaluation, basin analysis and prospect identification in frontier basins, prospect generation and appraisal for unconventional resources (shale gas, liquids and tight gas) and have the ability to transform an unconventional resource into a producing asset. You will therefore have experience in completing geological interpretations in a variety of structural and stratigraphic regimes incorporating a variety of geophysical and geological data. You will be able to provide detailed depositional models within a regional sequence stratigraphic framework. You will have the experience to enable you to actively participate in the well planning process to optimize well locations using a variety of geological and geophysical data. You will have the ability to provide input into the generation of both appraisal plans and field development plans for resource assessment and development optimization. The ability to work on a multidisciplinary team is a key asset.

Duties And Responsibilities:

You will be required to perform the following:

• Provide input into regional evaluation, basin analysis and prospect identification for frontier basins, prospect generation and appraisal for unconventional resources (shale gas and liquids and tight gas).

• Perform geological interpretation in a variety of structural and stratigraphic regimes incorporating a variety of geophysical and geological data.

• Provide detailed depositional models within a regional sequence stratigraphic framework.

• Actively participate in the well planning process to optimize well locations using a variety of geological and geophysical data.

• Provide input into the generation of appraisal plans for future developments.
