Petrel 2011

Mon Mar 28, 2011 6:41 pm

Dear fellow Geo's,

Does anybody have news (they can share, without neglecting confidentiality) on the 2011 release of Petrel? I have heard it's due pretty soon and was wandering if there are any pre-release prognosis on new functionality and modules?

thanks!

I’ve read a little about the new functionality. The things I’m most excited about are probably the possibility to make maps and volume calculations while interpreting. There should also be a new way to express confidence in anything you do so we should be able to assess seal capacity and charge timing early on.

Interpretation of faults could be sped up using the automatic fault tracking, while horizon interpretation may be sped up by using 3D seismic flattening.

There is also a new attribute player that sound interesting with respect to geobody isolation.
Gridding will include a stair step method that should help in complex faulted fields.

A lot seems to be focused towards reserve estimates and uncertainty management. Furthermore I think there are some improvements in the dynamic modeling modules, but I’m not really into that.

Another great feature should be the possibility to personalize the workspace and rearrange all the buttons to your liking… But, this will probably be very annoying for our support guys, when not so experienced users start moving their buttons around!
