Blueback Flatten Seismics for visualising channels

Fri Oct 01, 2010 2:17 am

I am having a problem with visualizing fluvial channels in a large 3D cube we are analyzing. In dip-oriented random intersections I am able to pinpoint certain parts of the channels, but due to faulting and folding I can never visualize channels for more than a kilometer. I tried mapping surfaces and have extracted seismic attributes in a lot of different search windows, but nothing seems to extract the channels as clear as they are in the random intersections I used to pinpoint them. I feel this has to do with the interpretation I am forced to do along reflectors that occasionally follow channel bases and in other areas then may tune into channel top reflectors. Our seismic resolution isn't good enough and we don;t have continuous reflectors to follow accurately. Also smoothing my interpretation surface does not help.

My question thus is. Will the Blueback flattening of seismic cubes (along the smoothed interpreted surface) do the trick. I feel I can then use timeslices to visualize the channels and my problems with my interpretation inaccuracy will be mostly gone.

Any experience with this would be much appreciated!

thanks!

I think this is exactly what the intended it for. So give it a try and I believe the toolbox is still free (or has this changed). Let us know if it worked!
