Seismic interpretation

Sat May 26, 2012 2:51 pm

I read a lot about inversion and about how it helps in interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data.
I am just a geologist and had a physics minor in college. I was stumped by my illiteracy in this field. :?:
Its can aid exploration enormously. Could anyone please suggest a book for some detailed overview on this topic, some details on the machinery and interpretation. Also if you would be generous enough to help me with some learning tools, so I could understand it better, I would eternally thank you.
I am sure it will come in handy in the future. :)
Would be grateful.

Hello Loloforfun,
I 'll abvise you purchase a book on Inversion marketed by Society of Petroleum Engineers. THe book is written in straightforward presentation and I believe it will throw a lot of light on this topic. Below are the details.
Seismic Inversion by Mirinal K. Sen
2006
ISBN: 978-1-55563-110-9
S.P.E.
List Price : $90
Member's Price: $45
If you are a member of SPE, you'll pay a discounted price of $45 for the book, 50% of the price it is sold to non members. If you are not a member, it may be advisable you look for a Member to purchase it for you.
On the software side of it, Petrel and the Hampson-Rusell Inversion package are two softwares that come to mind but purchasing it as an individual may be too expensive.
I understand there is another Inversion software developed by Fugro which may be much cheaper to acquire. You 'll need to do some investigation on these 3 software options and even explore the possibility whether any one of the Companies has a Training/Academic software versions (with trial data on them) which they may be selling at highly discounted prices.
Wish you goodluck in your drive for personal development.

Thank you,
Is the book you suggested a tried and tested book, and will it make sense to a person with not-so-good a background in Physics.
Would you be so kind as to suggest an alternate, if not SIP
Thanks in advance.
