mind set on geology

I've always had my mind set on geology however now when i become closer to university i need to know more about it. it is not just the study of rocks i thought but most people say it is. i thought it varied and could range from the mining industry to explaining different landforms of the world. i enjoy geography at school which i thought to be similar. can anyone tell me about geology including the processes, the work hours and work plan and the pay?

There's a huge range of roles that a geologist could be involved in, which come with all kinds of pay, work hours and conditions.

Starting off in geology can lead into geophysics, geochemistry, hydrology and various types of geological engineering.

Ultimately its a question of the balance you prefer between field work, lab work and office/computer work, as well as how far into the maths side you want to go.
