At a crossroads in my life
I am a 38yr old with a BS in Forestry. After a stint in the military and 12yrs of being self employed in the timber industry, I diversified into non-destructive testing and inspection. I hold a Certified Welding Instpector certification as well as an API 510 pressure vessel inspector certification.
A year ago I suffered a severe arm injury off work. I have regained most use of my arm but it will prevent me from working in refineries ever again.
I am considering aquiring a petroleum geology degree, but would really appreciate your opinions on this career path. With no worker comp insurance, and little income from a previous business, It is imperative that I achieve as close to my old salary as possible. I don't expect to start at the top of course, but would like to know my chances of moving up quickly in this field.
From what i've read on this forum, exploration geology(mining) seems a better fit to my interests of travel and field work, but i'm concerned about the pay.
I know this post is long winded, but I have so many questions and have exhausted all other internet sources. I appreciate any replies. Thanks in advance.
