Does anyone have experience with the program PetroMod (Schlumberger). Is the program useful, please comment.

it is ,but more expensive than other software. There are many programs do the same workflow with lower price...

Can you recommend some other software that could work as Petromod (cheaper)?

You can use Genesis, Trinity, KINEX (Zetaware), this is much cheaper than PetroMod. Also this package does everything in a typical Basin Modelling and petroleum system modelling workflow (All Petromod does and often better).

You should look at all the offerings, they each have strengths and weaknesses. The PetroMod suite at present seems to have the most comprehensive set of tools for detailed analysis but if your needs are just for 2d or 3d reconnaissance there are other good options. None are magic bullets and the key uncertainty will come down to the quality of your mapping, model building and understanding of the structural history.

So it really is worth taking a hard look at what you really need and the your objectives. Cheaper is not necessarily best value!!

The Zetaware software is indeed very good for basin modelling, also much quicker and more user friendly, The software designer/manufacturer is still getting support emails directly and is very proactive about replying etc... and discussing and is constantly working in new suggestions by users.
However you should be aware it does not yet have the full functionality of Petromod/basinMod and Trinity is a psuedo-3D rather than actual 3D modelling tool (however it is much quicker and maturity models can be run in minutes rather than days). Hope that helps, the best thing about it is that any old geologist eg me can use these products and doesn't need to be a specialist Petroleum systems analyst.

...also the biggest issue I had was that it uses scalers to match temperature history, which means if you have deep wells the error increases with depth.

Dear Aleksandar, what Lester said is very true. All available basin modeling packages have advantages and disadvantages, regardless of the price. You should base your decision of which package to use on what questions you want to get answered doing modeling. That could include special issues like - pressure prediction, tectonics, salt movement, full migration modeling (quantitative/qualitative reservoir prediction) vs. generation only, full 3D migration vs, map-based migration, etc. What you expect from your model will ultimately help you determining which software package is best suitable.
