HGNS Well Curvature (HWEC)

This is an abbreviation for a well log used in the oil and gas industry. The code HWEC is a unique identifier to recognize this particular log and can be found in any (ASCII) log files provided by the logging company. The code stands for 'HGNS Well Curvature'. This log is not used too often in the industry.

This log displays readings of the degree to which a path is curved relative to the length of the path along the curve. At a more general level these values are measures of the shape. Better said, the visible makeup characteristic of a particular item or kind of item. Also the spatial form of an item, or a standard or universally recognized spatial form.

In general this log thus reflects units of the geometry. This is a measure of the geometry of an object; e.g. the geometry of an Earth formation, a Fault, a Field, a Basin, a Borehole, etc. Usually represented with a Grid, Mesh, Parametric curves, or other complex representations.

This log usually has the unit 'Rotation Per Length'.

Data from this log can be used to investigate the curvature of the borehole. A similar log might be: HGNS Well Curvature Radius (HWER).
