Electromagnetic Propagation Dielectric Constant (EPDC) |
This is an abbreviation for a well log used in the oil and gas industry. The code EPDC is a unique identifier to recognize this particular log and can be found in any (ASCII) log files provided by the logging company. The code stands for 'Electromagnetic Propagation Dielectric Constant'. This log is very common in the industry. This log can be used to evaluate the ratio of the Permittivity of a material to that of free space. In general this log thus reflects units of the permittivity. In other words, the property of a material that enables it to store electrical charge, typically measured in farad/m. Free space has a Permittivity of 8.854E-12 farad/m.This log in unitless. Either the log measurements can not be expressed with a unit (eg. a ratio) or the unit is unknown to us. Data for this log is produced by a tool that uses a electromagnetic logging technique and can be used to investigate the dielectric constant of the formation. A similar log might be: Pump through capacitance (PTCP).
