Bulk Modulus (BULK_MOD)
This is an abbreviation for a well log acquired after or during drilling. The acronym BULK_MOD can be found in any (ASCII) log files provided by the logging company. Bulk Modulus is the offical name for this log. The business value of this log is often deamed high. This log helps to evaluate the stress-strain ratio under simple hydrostatic pressure. k = Delta-P / (Delta V / V), where Delta-P, -V denote the change in Pressure and Volume.
In general this log thus reflects units of the elastic modulus. This can be explained as being the stress-strain properties of isotropic materials which obeys Hooke's law, for small formations, are specified by elastic moduli. This log usually has the unit 'Pressure'. This is the force or thrust exerted over a surface divided by its area; e.g., hydrostatic, flow, pump, etc. May be gauge or absolute.
