Variable Density Log (VDL)

This is a log of measurements along a well bore (a well-log). You could have found the code VDL in your log evaluation software or your corporate datastores. Variable Density Log is the full name for this log. This log is not used too often in the industry.

This log displays readings of the maximum departure of an acoustic wave from the average value

So basically this is a measure of the extent or range of a property; especially, the maximum departure of a wave from its average value.

This log in unitless. Either the log measurements can not be expressed with a unit (eg. a ratio) or the unit is unknown to us.

Data for this log is produced by a tool that uses a acoustic logging technique and can be used to investigate the amplitude of the formation. Similar logs are listed below:
