Toolface from Impulse (TFAC)

This is an abbreviation for a well log acquired after or during drilling. You could have found the code TFAC in your log evaluation software or your corporate datastores. The code stands for 'Toolface from Impulse'. Usage of this log is not high and encountering it is a rare occasion.

This log helps to evaluate the in directional drilling, the angle between a reference direction on the drill string and a fixed reference, measured in a plane normal to the drillstring. In near-vertical applications, North is the fixed reference (Magnetic Toolface); for higher deviation applications, Top of Hole is the reference (Gravity Toolface).

This log usually has the unit 'Plane Angle'. This is the angular displacement between two lines extending from the same point, measured in the plane of the two lines.

Data from this log can be used to investigate the toolface of the tool.
