Sonic Shear Velocity (SSVE) |
This is a log of measurements along a well bore (a well-log). The acronym SSVE can be found in any (ASCII) log files provided by the logging company. Sonic Shear Velocity is the offical name for this log. This log is very common in the industry. This log can be used to evaluate the velocity of a shear wave (Vs); a shear wave is a type of seismic wave in which the particle motion is perpendicular to the direction of propagation; also called S-wave or secondary wave. So basically this is a measure of the rate of change of the displacement of a body in time.This log usually has the unit 'Acoustic Velocity'. This is the velocity of an acoustic wave which represents the rate at which the wave travels from one point to another. Used generally for all elastic and seismic waves. Data for this log is produced by a tool that uses a acoustic logging technique and can be used to investigate the velocity of the formation. Similar logs are listed below:
