Pump through capacitance (PTCP)

This is an abbreviation for a well log acquired after or during drilling. You might have encountered this acronym PTCP in your log evaluation software or any (ASCII) log files provided by the logging company. The acronym stands for 'Pump through capacitance'. The business value of this log is often deamed high.

Use this log to investigate the property of a material that enables it to store electrical charge, typically measured in farad/m. Free space has a Permittivity of 8.854E-12 farad/m.

This log usually has the unit 'Dielectric Constant'. This is the ratio of the Permittivity of a material to that of free space.

Data for this log is produced by a tool that uses a electromagnetic logging technique and can be used to investigate the dielectric constant of the formation. A similar log might be: Electromagnetic Propagation Dielectric Constant (EPDC).
